Applications are invited for filling up following temporary project positions purely in project mode in the ICMAM Project Directorate, Chennai, an attached office of the Ministry of  Earth Sciences (MoES) initially for a period of one year extendable further based on performance as per details given below. If numbers of applicants are large, there will be a selection test.

1. Project Scientist - II ( 3 posts )

ME/ PS-II   1 
 Essential Qualification: Master’s Degree in Marine Science/ Chemical
Oceanography or equivalent from a recognized University/ Institute
with at least first class not less than 60% marks.
Experience: Minimum 3 years experience in Marine Chemistry.
Experience should be supported by publications in Marine Chemistry.
Desirable: Ph.D. in Chemistry/ Organic Geochemistry, working
knowledge in the analysis of toxic pollutants (PAHs and other POPs)
in the environment.
CP&SM/PS-II 2
Essential Qualification: Master’s degree or equivalent in
Oceanography/Marine Science/ Physics/ Mathematics or related
subjects or M.E/ M. Tech. in Coastal/Ocean related subjects or
equivalent from recognized University/Institute with at least first
class not less than 60% marks.

Experience: At least 3 years experience for M.Sc candidates and 2
years experience for M.Tech candidates in the field of coastal
oceanography /coastal processes modeling/ sediment transport/
hydrodynamic data analysis using mathematical models like Mike21/
LITPACK/ ROMS/ Delft-3D/ ADCIRC or similar etc. Experience should
be supported by publications or reports.2
2. Project Scientist I - 7 posts

Essential Qualification: M.Sc (Marine Biology/Zoology) from a
recognized University/Institute with at least first class not less than
60% marks.
Experience: Minimum 2 years of field experience in water sampling
related to biogeochemistry, plankton identification, food web
dynamics.
Desirable: Hands on experience on identification of plankton and their
studies on ecology related to nutrient biogeochemistry.
Nature of Work: Plankton identification and development of
coefficients related to plankton, conducting lab and field experiments.
ESM/PS-I/2 1
Essential Qualification: M.Sc (Analytical chemistry/Inorganic
chemistry/ Marine Chemistry) from a recognized University/Institute
with at least first class not less than 60% marks.
Experience: Minimum 2 years of field experience in water sampling
related to biogeochemistry, nutrient analysis.
Desirable: Hands on experience on spectrophotometer, fluorometer,
GC, AAS, experimental knowledge related to development of
coefficient.
Nature of Work: Field sampling, nutrients and trace metal analysis,
sediment biogeochemistry, development of coefficients related to
nutrients/sediment biogeochemistry.
ESM/PS-I/3 1
Essential Qualification: M.Sc (Physics/ Remote sensing/ Marine
Science/ Oceanography with remote sensing as a specialization (OR)
M.Tech (Remote sensing or related subject) with at least first class not
less than 60% marks.
Experience: For M.Sc candidates, minimum 2 years field/ modeling
experience and for M.Tech candidates, minimum 1 year field/ model
experience in the subject of remote sensing/ satellite oceanography
related to coastal resource management.
Nature of Work: Exploring the remote sensing techniques with various
algorithms for ecosystem processes and developing productivity maps.
CPSM/PS-I 2 Nos.
Essential Qualification: Master degree or equivalent in Oceanography/
Marine Science/ Physics/ Mathematics /MCA or related subjects or
M.E/ M.Tech. Coastal /Ocean related subjects or equivalent from
recognized University/Institute with at least first class not less than 3

Experience: At least 2 years experience for M.Sc candidates and 1 year
experience for M.Tech candidates in the field of coastal oceanography
/coastal processes modeling/ sediment transport /hydrodynamic data
analysis. Experience in handling any coastal process models or
programming skills using FORTRAN /C++/ MATLAB for coastal related
work.
PWQ/ PS-I 1
Essential Qualification: Master degree in Computer Science/ Statistics/
Oceanography/ Marine Biology or equivalent with at least first class
not less than 60% marks.
Experience: At least 2 years of experience on Oceanographic data -
statistical analysis / knowledge on numerical modelling / computer
programming / web design etc.
TRG/ PS-I 1 Essential Qualification: Master degree in Oceanography / Physics/
Geology/ Geography / Marine science / Remote Sensing / GIS or
M.E/M.Tech. in Geoinformatics/Remote Sensing or equivalent from
recognized University with at least first class not less than 60% marks.
Experience: At least 2 years of experience for M.Sc candidates and one
year experience for M.Tech Candidates in the field of Image
processing/GIS analysis/Numerical modelling in works related to
Coastal and Marine areas.
Nature of Work: In-situ data collection, Satellite data processing, RS
and GIS work related to coastal areas.
3. Senior Research Fellow - 3 Nos.

Sciences/ Geo Sciences/ Remote sensing/ MCA /Physics /
Environmental Sciences or B. Tech in Geo informatics /Geo technology

Experience: At least 2 years for M.Sc / MCA candidates and 1 year
experience for B.Tech candidates in remote sensing / GIS application /
mathematical modeling in the coastal environment.
ESM/SRF/1 1
Essential Qualification: M.Sc (Analytical Chemistry/ Inorganic
chemistry/ Marine Chemistry) with at least first class not less than 60%

studies on ecology related to nutrient biogeochemistry.
Nature of Work: Plankton identification and maintenance of algal
cultures.
4. Junior Research Fellow - 1 No.

PWQ/JRF 1
Essential Qualification: M Sc in Marine Science, Oceanography, Marine
Biology, Marine Chemistry with at least first class not less than 60%
marks and UGC-CSIR NET qualified.
Nature of Work: Collection of field samples and analysis of physical,
chemical and biological parameters.
5. Senior Project Assistant - 1 No. Post Code No. of posts Qualifications
ESM/SPA 1
Essential Qualification: Diploma in Electronics/ Telecommunications/
instrumentation with at least first class not less than 60% marks.
Experience: Minimum 1 year working experience in field deployment
and maintenance of instruments, data collection related to coastal
oceanography.
Nature of Work: Overall maintenance of oceanographic instruments,
their deployment in coastal waters and participation in related field
surveys.
Note:
1. Candidates must be citizens of India.
2. Age Limit : PS II-40 Years, PS I-35 Years, SRF /SPA- 32 Years and JRF-28 Years as on last date
of application (relaxation of age is applicable to the SC/ST/OBC/Women/Physically challenged
candidates as per the Govt. of India norms)
3. The engagement is time bound and purely temporary on contract basis and on consolidated
salary, against the XII Five Year Plan project sanctions. The duration of the engagement would
be initially for a period of 1 year and extendable to 3 years or co-terminous with the project,
whichever is earlier, subject to Annual Performance Review.
4. Work Place: The selected candidate will initially be posted to work at ICMAM-PD, Chennai and
may be required to work anywhere in India in future.
5. Number of years of experience will be counted after the year of award of qualifying degree.
6. Candidates serving in Central / State Governments / Public Sector Undertaking / Autonomous
bodies etc. shall apply through proper channel. If candidates apply directly, their selection will
be subject to clearance from their departments.
7. Application should be typed on a thick plain paper in the format given below. Attested copies
of certificates (age along with the application), educational qualifications, training and
experience proof must be enclosed. Applications without the degree and experience
certificates and photograph are summarily rejected. Applications received through email will
also be rejected. Year(s) of experience needs to be supported by publications / reports.
8. The prescribed essential qualifications are minimum and mere possession of the same does
not entitle candidates to be called for interview. Where the number of applications received in
response to an advertisement is large and it will not be convenient or possible for the Selection
Committee to interview all those candidates, the Committee may restrict the number of
candidates for interview to reasonable limit through a trade test. Incomplete applications or
applications received after prescribed time limit shall not be entertained.
9. Paste a recent passport size photograph.
10. No Traveling Allowance will be admissible for attending the interview.
11. The application form is available on the ICMAM-PD website www.icmam.gov.in
12. Experience in a discipline / area of work, wherever prescribed, shall be counted after the
date of acquiring the minimum prescribed qualifications for that post.
13. The decision of ICMAM-PD in all matters relating to eligibility, acceptance or rejection of
applications shall be final and no enquiry or correspondence will be entertained in this
connection from any individual or his/her agency.6
14. ICMAM-PD reserves the right not to fill up any post(s) without assigning any reasons what so
ever and down grade the candidature based upon the performance of the candidates in the
interview.
15. The applications received after due date or without enclosures or incomplete applications
will be summarily rejected. ICMAM-PD cannot take any responsibility for transit and other
delays.
